CompassRed’s newest talent promises practicality alongside inspired work
On June 13th, 2018, we put on an event in Philadelphia, PA, to celebrate and explore the world of data science. It was called the Data Jawn, and it featured a roster of speakers working in as many sectors in data science in Philly as we could muster.
The central theme for the evening? Moving beyond the hype and delivering real world value.
Whether it’s the promise of self-driving cars, worker automation, deep learning-based decision making, the production of compelling data visualizations or the future of business made better by neural nets, every talk seemed to hone in on the fact that real, genuine data science is better served producing solutions for today’s problems instead of chasing problems that don’t exist yet.
For our team, this is particularly on point. We just brought on Jeff Headley as Chief Client Officer. Jeff joins us after working most recently for Black Swan Data’s US team as Managing Director. Jeff played a key role in driving Black Swan Data’s growth in North America. He demonstrated a keen awareness of what clients want from data science work.
As a company, we’re obsessed with finding novel ways to drive big impacts with data. We really believe that, buried somewhere in a massive dataset, lies a cure for cancer, the crux to colonizing new planets, the basis for genuine artificial intelligence and the key for dynamic machine learning.
That’s part of why we put on the Data Jawn. We want to inspire the data science community to be even better than it already is. That’s also why we produce The Data Lab podcast. We’re insatiably curious when it comes to data and what it can accomplish, and we make sure our team is doing interesting things in the field.
We also know that our clients depend on us for practical solutions to their everyday problems.
That’s something Jeff champions when he talks about building data science projects for real world issues. Jeff recently spoke with us about this idea of cutting through the hype bubbling up throughout the world of data. “I really feel,” he explained, “that any solution we present our clients needs to be immediately usable in their company. We have to make sure that the ground below them is fertile for whatever work we deliver, or else what’s the point?”
For Jeff, our unique geographical location presents an equally exciting opportunity. At home in Delaware, we share work spaces with financial services, retail, chemical companies, pharmaceuticals and the health industry. Along the I-95 corridor, we’re a quick train ride away from the politics in D.C. and the diverse market in New York.
Our location and that drive to actually produce work that’s executable by clients is part of what’s positioning CompassRed to excel in this industry. The team here consists of people who have worked in a wide swath of industries at all levels of employment and stages of company. We’ve built a team that knows exactly what it’s like to face the problems our clients face, and that means we’ve built a team that understands the types of practical solutions our clients need for their problems.
We’re built, intentionally, to cut through the hype.
