A View of Global Warming from a Different Angle

When you’re standing at a podium and looking out over the crowd while delivering a presentation - are you able to understand the thoughts of the crowd - quickly? Or looking at any crowd for that matter - can you gather insight right from the stage? And not just from a Social Media measuring or monitoring exercise - but a quick true visual of the various conversations that are taking part around a topic, person, or concept?

Being passionate about data - we at CompassRed love to run graph’s and node explorations around all kinds of topics. One can learn a great deal of information from a tweet, Facebook post, or even an an Instragram post. In aggregate, we begin to understand trends and the connections of those trends through visualized content.

Recently, over a lunch, we decided to look into something we care deeply about: the environment. An analysis of “Global Warming” in the public twitter firehose displayed some of the most interesting conversations - and links across conversations. More importantly - who shaped these conversations and who are the connectors in the conversations. Did we know that 400ppm is a milestone that the crowed actually cares about - and that wildfires are super important to certain groups - and not to others? And who knew that @TheRealDonaldTrump, a member of the graph, is moving the conversation (good or bad)?

Analyzing the Social Graph can give us much more context about the conversations going on in certain topics - sometimes even more than the conversations themselves.
